Who is in control of your business....

Has the penny dropped…?  “Send me your invoice and I’ll transfer the money!”…. Says the lovely customer. You wait and wait and no payment arrives. Just one non-payment is the thin edge of the wedge but Non or late payment for work can spread like virus and have a huge impact on you and your business.  If you are walking away from new customers without collecting payment then guess what…? …. you are no longer in control of your business!!  You have just handed your customer complete control and while you may think that may sound a bit extreme, I am seeing it play havoc on many business owners.  I can see it causing anxiety, frustration and anger to the extent that it is impacting you personally and as a result it impacts other parts of your business.   Eg. You have to start spending your precious time and your money to collect that money that should already be in your bank. This leads to resentment that starts to impact on how you feel and how ...

The Basics - Have you got proper Control of your finances...?

Image
I have sent out various messages recently about the upwards growth of the business. This is a general trend which should be used as inspiration to cut across all the negativity on the news and social media. Yes, we are all seeing challenging times but we still move things forward…………… Despite this trend of growth there is one area of business that is cropping up more often than I would like – Financial Control. Or more frankly – lack of any financial control !!! And I am talking about many that could be viewed as being very successful. You can choose to watch the 2 videos or simply read the text - they are largely the same but it could be good to watch and read. Part 1   Part 2 Remember Sales is VANITY, Profit is SANITY and cash is REALITY. Even if you are in a good place with your finances a...

Checkatrade... how to get more reviews

Image
Checkatrade is one of the best forms of marketing across the Group.  On a cost per lead it represents great value compared to many other forms of marketing. One of the most fundamental parts of Checkatrade and how you get more visibility is REVIEWS.   No recent Reviews = less views = less work.   If you want to know how to get more Checkatrade reviews then watch this video.   This has come directly from the network and is a very unknown function within the Checkatrade Account (I don’t think you can do this on the APP – only the main browser account). If you want to learn more advanced stuff about the workings of Checkatrade then talk to the digital team.

Sole Trader or Limited Company - what is the difference..?

I have been asked on many occasions what is the difference between running your business as a Sole Trader versus a Limited Company...? In this article I set out some of the advantages and some disadvantages to give you a good idea, however I must caveat that I am not providing formal advice in this article and I am sure you can appreciate that the law does change over time and therefore you should seek proper legal advice before you decide which route you take. In our network today I would say that 75% are sole traders and 25% are limited company although there are more choosing Limited Company than previously. The Advantages Limited Liability separates your Personal Finances from your Business Finances.  This is one of the biggest reasons that people choose this route. As a sole trader the business is "you" and therefore should a customer have a claim against you (for loss, damages or similar) then a claim is against you personally and you would be required to settle the cl...
